I present to you The Beast from Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Chateau Villeneuve stood on the edge of a deep mountain ravine surrounded by beautiful lush forests and was located about a day’s ride from the provincial town of Beau Vale. The King and Queen Villeneuve had tragically perished in an accident when out riding and the Chateau and its province passed onto their son Prince Adam, who would be crowned King when he came of age at twenty one. The young Prince found himself entrusted with a lot of wealth and power, and his servants and courtiers, wishing to please the tragic Prince waited upon him hand and foot and pandered to his every whim, and without the guidance of his parent’s example he grew up spoiled and shallow. Always dressed in the latest fashions, he had the finest treasures money could buy and yet he was never happy or satisfied. His attitude towards his exhausted staff was outright beastly. He was growing into a handsome young man and he loved having his portrait painted. Everything about his appearance had to be perfect. One evening, on his fourteenth Birthday, a great storm blew outside and Prince Adam was in a rage that his new dress coat and britches were the wrong shade of blue and that his birthday ball would be ruined. There was knocking at his chamber door and the footman entered, narrowly missing a teacup that was launched at his head. He told the Prince that there was someone in the entrance hall seeking shelter from the storm and wished to speak to his majesty. The Prince stormed into the entrance hall to see who was bothering him. Standing in the doorway was a crooked old peddler woman, soaked by the rain. She asked for shelter from the storm, she had no coins to offer, she had but one thing in exchange and from the folds of her voluminous sleeves she produced a single red rose.
Prince Adam drew back in disgust and turned the hideous old woman away calling her a nasty, ugly beast. The Hag threw back her head cackling menacingly, “A beast am I? No my dear boy, your shallow heart shows you for what you really are. It is YOU who is the BEAST!” A bolt of green crackling magic flew from her finger tips, striking the Prince’s chest, lifting him off the floor and surrounding him in a cloud of sparkling green smoke. When the smoke cleared, the Prince had been transformed into a furred Beast with curved horns, protruding tusks, and a long wolfish tail. Seeing his reflection in the polished marble floor, the Beast began to cry bitter tears. From her sleeve the Hag produced a glass bottle and collected the falling tears before returning the bottle to her sleeve. The Beast pleaded to be changed back, covering his face with his paws, saying he would rather not see anyone looking like this he would rather be forgotten. The Hag smiled a cruel smile and said “done”, and with flick of her wrist, every servant and courtier in the chateau vanished from sight. “There, now you cannot see them, in fact you won’t even hear them, but they shall remain here silently waiting on you as always. As for the rest of your Kingdom, you shall fade from their memory, just as you wished.” The former Prince begged the Hag for forgiveness and instead she handed him the rose, which was now sparkling and glowing a dusky pink, and she told him that it is enchanted, It will bloom until his twenty first year, then the petals will begin to fall. He has until the time the last petal falls on his twenty first birthday to find someone to love him as he is and the spell will be broken. Should he fail he shall remain forever a beast.
True to the Hag’s word, the province of Beau Vale forgot about their Prince and the castle, and the once well-travelled paths became over grown, reclaimed by the forest. Consumed by his sadness and rage and too afraid to show his face to the outside world, the Beast lived in relative isolation, unable to see even the servants that still loyally served him. As his sadness grew with each passing year, his chateau gradually fell into a state of neglect.  The Enchanted Rose was kept in the west wing of the castle, the Prince’s private chambers, under a glass dome to protect it. Six years eventually had passed and the first petal fell from the rose. One evening an elderly man, who had become lost in the forest, happened to stumble across the castle and, seeking help, he entered. The Beast kept to the shadows out of sight, but his servants laid food and drink out for the man, hoping he would leave after he had eaten. However the man, whom was named Maurice, didn’t leave and roamed the chateau. He discovered the rose in the West Wing and, as he was lifting the glass dome off, the Beast pounced on him in anger and dragged him to a dungeon cell. The man pleaded that he was only thinking of his daughter, who had requested a rose upon his return, but the Beast called him a thief and locked the cell door. It was but three nights later when another visitor arrived at Chateau Villeneuve, a girl, a very beautiful girl. Beast hid in the shadows atop a flight of stairs just out of her sight, “What are you doing here?!” he growled.
“I have come for my Father, Maurice…have you seen him?” the girl asked hopefully.
Beast told her that he was a trespasser and he had locked him in the dungeons. The girl gasped, “No, there must be some misunderstanding. He got lost in the forest, please let me see him?” As she approached the stairs, Beast stepped back further into the darkness. “No, he tried to steal from me”, he snarled.
“He would never steal. Please, he is an old man. Just let him go, he means no harm. Please! I will do anything”, the girl said setting foot on the bottom step.
“Stop! No, he is my prisoner. There is nothing you can do. Leave, now!” Beast turned to leave.
“There must be some way I can…wait! Take me instead!”
Beast was stunned, “You, you would take his place?”
“If I did, would you let him go?” She asked.
“Yes, but you must promise to stay here, forever”. Beast was momentarily illuminated in the moonlight and the beautiful girl caught a glimpse of him before he drew himself into the shadows again, but she was curious. “Step into the light” she said. With a deep sigh, Beast slowly stepped out into the pool of moonlight on the stairs.
She gasped and her hazel eyes widened, but she did not scream. After a moment, she regained her composure and agreed to stay. So the Beast released Maurice, but forbade him to see his daughter again and sent him away on horseback without allowing so much as a good bye to his daughter. The daughter, whom Beast learned was named Belle, took her father’s place. However Beast didn’t keep her locked in the dungeons. Feeling some remorse for his actions, he guided her to the chambers, which had once belonged to his Mother, the Queen Villeneuve, which had remained untouched and told her should she wish for anything, simple say it aloud and it shall be done.
Time passed and Belle slowly managed to bring the kindness out of the Beast with her patience and kind heart. However Beast refused to tell Belle his name, saying he was not worthy of such a name, Beast is the only name he deserved. Slowly the Chateau began to come to life again. Repairs seemed to be done as if by magic, or so it seemed to Belle. The Beast still had an awful temper and Belle learned quickly to never set foot in the West Wing. To make up for his temper he gifted Belle the library as he knew how much she loved to read. However, even though a friendship was budding between them, only a tale as old as time would tell if romance would blossom.
